The first thing that you need to understand about what is acid reflux is that it happens when stomach acid, or gastric acid, backs up into the esophagus and causes pain. This is not the same as gastric reflux, which occurs when stomach acid forces its way up the esophagus into the airway. In fact, if you were to look at it more closely, both conditions would have the same signs and effects. The difference is that gastric reflux causes pain while acid reflux causes discomfort.
Symptoms of acid reflux :
Not all acid reflux patients experience the main symptoms at the same time. There could be mild reflux, and severe reflux depending on the severity of the disease. Some of the main symptoms include heartburn, sore throat, difficulty swallowing, chest pains, and regurgitation. Each patient experiences different main symptoms of acid reflux, but at some point, most people will feel discomfort in the area of their esophagus.
Heartburn is the most common symptom of acid reflux. However, this condition can also be triggered by swallowing foods that are too hard, such as carrots. Eating a small number of hard foods can be a good way to prevent heartburn, especially if you have a lot of them. Apples, bananas, applesauce, cauliflower, lettuce, peas, mushrooms, potatoes, spinach, and lean meat are ideal.
